The Value of Sitting At The Right Table

For leaders there's an overlooked value in being among the right people at critical times of decision in a world that continues to 'settle' into disruption.

Leadership can be a lonely place. The question of who to trust with what information looms large as we consider the state of our social environment, organizations and our teams. I will continue to reference the BANI world that we are living in (brittle, anxiety-producing, non-linear and incomprehensible) because your clients, your teams and your organization are all dealing with this reality. Brittle systems don't bend they break. Anxiety comes when your stakeholders wonder if they can trust the systems surrounding your organization. Your anxious team doesn't want to be in the next round of downsizing, so innovation goes down and quiet self-preservation goes up.

And between all of this stands you, the leader.

The table where you sit represents your safe place of counsel, vulnerability and accountability. It is to this table that you can bring your concerns as a leader and be inspired and challenged to embrace the shifts in thinking that allow you to accomplish what seems impossible. Yes, I realize that is a lofty statement and I stand by it. Your table brings new possibilities into clearer focus.

The value of my table is crystal clear as I leave 36 impactful hours with a group of coaches and consultants from Dream Releaser Coaching, the place of my initial coach training. The intersection of experiences, challenges and opportunities will make for an enriching time of growth if you are courageous enough to find the right table. The opportunity to give and receive will affirm what you bring to 'the table' as a leader.  Among my biggest takeaways: Deciding to embrace uncertainty, courageously.

Your table also includes those trusted partners who are willing to walk through the hard, messy places of leading and growing with you. If you don't have others at your table -- coaches, consultants and other thought partners, consider adding value to your table by including those professionals. We would welcome the opportunity to sit with you and your team as a partner in growth. Contact us here to schedule some time.

As you consider the challenges of this year and the victories you believe your team can achieve next year, make sure you set the right table for what is ahead.

Happy Holidays
